Job Summary:
JOB PURPOSE: This position assists the department in closing the books of various Vectren companies, while providing support to management, internal customers, auditors, and regulators. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES: Works under supervision applying principles of accounting to analyze financial and statistical information as well as preparing journal entries and financial reports. Performs monthly close of books and records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the Uniform System of Accounts (USoA), ensuring adequacy of internal controls (SO 404). Closing procedures include consolidation of a complex organization using ORACLE and other systems Prepares financial and statistical reports for Board of Directors, senior management and regulatory agencies. Provides support to external audit process. May direct and/or review work of accounting analysts including review of the monthly consolidation process and cash management activities. Responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial statements, reports and regulatory exhibits and schedules. Remains abreast of accounting policy and procedures to ensure integrity of records. Completes a monthly analysis of gross margin. Identifies the need for and collects information to better understand issues, problems, and opportunities. Other projects as assigned. Key customers include: Management – all Internal Departments, Operations – Regulated and Non Regulated, Regulators (FERC, IN and OH state commissions), Auditors (External and Internal), Board of Directors.

Qualifications
Education and Certifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required Preferred: CPA or MBA Experience Required: 4-6 years Functional / Technical Competency Requirements Required: Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Demonstrated technical expertise. Solid analytical skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Strong PC skills.
