Step 1: Vectren will verify that a gas main is readily available to your home.
Step 2: Vectren will establish your address and open an account in our customer service database.
Step 3: You will need to engage a certified contractor (HVAC or plumber) who will meet with Vectren
to determine the correct location for your meter and service line. Your contractor will then install
the underground service line from Vectren’s gas main to your home and build the meter setting.
In addition, your contractor will install the fuel line from the meter setting to your appliances.
Installation costs associated with Step 3 are the homeowner's responsibility.
Step 4: Once installed, Vectren will inspect the service line test and meter setting. A local or
state-designated inspector will verify the house/fuel line test or, if a local agency does not exist,
Vectren will inspect those lines. (The inspection process and representative vary by region.)
Step 5: Following these successful inspections, Vectren will connect your service line to the main,
hang/install the gas meter and turn on service.

Special Notice
Responsibility for Gas Piping
The customer owns and has maintenance responsibility for the natural gas piping
from the outside curb valve to all gas appliances, with the exception of the gas
meter and regulator (should one be required). However, Vectren has inspection
responsibilities for the portion of pipe from the curb valve to the outlet of
your meter. If a problem is found on this piping during Vectren’s inspection,
Vectren will inform the customer of the need to repair or replace the piping.
Customer piping, from the outlet of the meter to the gas appliances, is subject
to potential hazards of corrosion and leakage. For your safety, all customer gas
piping should be periodically inspected for leaks. If the piping is metallic,
it should also be periodically inspected for corrosion. If an unsafe condition
is found, the gas piping will need to be promptly repaired.
To obtain help - A qualified plumber or excavation contractor that meets Department
of Transportation and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio regulations can assist
you in inspecting and repairing such pipelines. |
