Niel C. Ellerbrook
Chairman & CEO
Vectren Corporation
Niel C. Ellerbrook was named chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Vectren Corporation in May of 2003, and today serves as chairman and CEO following the election of Carl Chapman as president in 2007. He was elected by the Vectren Corporation Board of Directors as chairman and CEO of Vectren effective upon its formation March 31, 2000. Prior to being named Vectren chairman and CEO, Ellerbrook held the position of president and CEO of Indiana Energy, Inc., to which he was elected in 1999.
Prior to his election as CEO, the Franklin, Ind., native served in a number of positions, including vice president of finance, chief financial officer, senior vice president, executive vice president, president of Indiana Gas Company, Inc., and president and chief operating officer of Indiana Energy, Inc. Ellerbrook has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1991.
Ellerbrook graduated from Ball State University in 1970, receiving a B.S. in accounting.
Vectren Corporation is a diversified energy holding company headquartered in Evansville, Indiana. Vectren’s utility subsidiaries deliver gas and electricity to more than one million customers in Indiana and west central Ohio. Vectren's non-utility subsidiaries and affiliates currently offer energy-related products and services that include energy marketing and services, coal mining and energy infrastructure services.
Civic and Professional Activities
He serves on the boards of the American Gas Association for which he serves as chair of the audit committee and on the board of directors of Old National Bancorp for which he serves as the chair of the compensation committee.
Ellerbrook is involved in numerous educational initiatives and activities. He serves on the board of Signature Learning Center, a charter school serving over 200 high school students in Evansville, Ind. He is also on the Board of Trustees for the University of Evansville where he serves as chairman. He is a long-time and dedicated supporter of United Way and has been instrumental in directing Vectren Corporation to be among the leaders for all southwestern Indiana companies in the number of leadership level contributors.
Awards
Ball State University has honored its alumnus by awarding him the Business School Award of Distinction (1999), admitting him to the Business School Hall of Fame (1999) and choosing him as a Distinguished Alumni (2001).
Carl L. Chapman
President and Chief Operating Officer
Vectren Corporation
Carl L. Chapman was named president and chief operating officer (COO) of Vectren Corporation in 2007. Prior to his current position, the Carmel, Ind., native served as executive vice president and COO of Vectren Corporation. He has served in various leadership roles at the company including executive vice president, as well as president of Vectren Enterprises, Vectren’s holding company for its nonregulated subsidiaries and affiliates and as the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Indiana Energy Inc., a Vectren predecessor company. Chapman also helped form and served as president of ProLiance Energy, the company’s largest nonregulated affiliate, where he is still chairman. He began his career in the energy industry in 1985 with Indiana Gas Company where he served in a number of roles including senior vice president of corporate development, vice president of planning, and director of planning, budgeting and investor relations.
Chapman received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, graduating summa cum laude from Ball State University in 1977. He began his career with Arthur Andersen, remaining there until joining Indiana Gas.
He serves on the board of directors for the Indiana Humanities Council, Youth First and Children’s Museum of Evansville and serves on the Board of Advisors for the University of Southern Indiana Business School.
Chapman resides in Newburgh, Indiana with his wife of 29 years, Kay. They have two sons, Ross, a graduate student at Trinity International University in Chicago and Grant, a student at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis.
