Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
As part of our ongoing effort to enhance service for our customers, Vectren will
install Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology throughout its Indiana and Ohio
natural gas service territories beginning in August 2015 and wrapping up in 2018.
When completed, AMR will enable Vectren to obtain as many as 10,000 actual reads
in a single route, compared to an average of 500 reads recorded per daily walking
route. AMR will reduce the number of estimated meter reads and is more convenient
for customers who have traditionally had to provide the utility with access to
inside meters or those behind locked gates. Once deployed, these devices will
result in more efficient and cost-effective meter reads.
What is AMR?AMR uses special equipment known as Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) devices, which are installed on natural gas meters in order to transmit meter information via radio signals to mobile collectors.
When will AMR be coming to my neighborhood?Look for communication on your Vectren bill or in your local media as to when the AMR upgrade is coming to your town. View Proposed AMR Implementation Schedule (PDF)
